The Art Treasures of the Palace of Westminster

30th January 2020

An illustrated talk by Christine Russel on 30th January 2020 at the Chester Grosvenor Museum at 7.30 pm

This is the only known painting to record the fire which destroyed the previous Houses of Parliament.

Christine Russell was elected as the first woman MP for the City of Chester Constituency in 1997. She had previously served as a councillor and a magistrate in the city from 1980.

In 2005, Christine was invited to serve on the Speaker’s Advisory Committee for Works of Art. The Committee is responsible for commissioning or purchasing new works of art for the Parliamentary Collection. In addition, the Committee looks after over 8.500 paintings, statues and busts that are displayed, or stored, in the Palace of Westminster.

Christine’s talk will be illustrated with images from the Collection.
